Ushikubi Tsumugi, produced in Shiramine Village, Ishikawa Prefecture,
is the textile with the smallest production volume among Japan's three major Tsumugi.
Ushikubi Tsumugi is made by directly hand-drawing Tamamayu (double cocoons), which are accidentally created by two silkworms, into a single thread.
The process called "Nobebiki" creates tasteful knots, a beautiful luster, and a smooth touch.
The thick and sturdy thread drawn from the double cocoons results in high durability,
and it is also known by the alias "Kuginuki Tsumugi" (Nail-puller Tsumugi).
Creating a single thread from complexly intertwined double cocoons requires highly advanced and experienced skills,
and this is what protects the uniqueness of Ushikubi Tsumugi.
Furthermore, the characteristic of Ushikubi Tsumugi is
that it is produced through an integrated process of a total of 20 steps,
from the creation of Tamaito (double cocoon silk) hand-pulled from double cocoons to the weaving.
Infused with the warmth of the craftsman's hands,
a high-quality texture with both suppleness and firmness is born.
