Miyako Jofu begins with the process of thread making,
Carefully cultivated ramie fibers are split thinly using fingers or nails,
Then carefully spun into yarn by twisting with fingers, and woven according to a pattern with kasuri tying,
Dyed with natural dyes such as indigo and fukugi, then carefully handwoven,
Finished with a process called "washing," which includes sizing and kinuta pounding (beating with a wooden mallet),
It is a supreme handmade product.

And it is very lightweight, with excellent elasticity and luster, resulting in a superb item.
The cool, exceptional feel is unique to Miyako Jofu.

Even skilled artisans only weave about 30cm of intricate kasuri pattern per day,
