The material, raw hemp, becomes more glossy when it is thinner, but
it takes more than a month to produce thin, uniform hemp threads.
Then, using the finished hemp threads, the work of weaving on a traditional ground loom
takes an additional more than three months, and the final snow bleaching process completes it.

By performing snow bleaching, which has a bleaching effect, the white ground becomes whiter, and the color becomes more subdued,
and the fibers become softer, making it more comfortable to the touch.

In this way, Echigo Jofu involves many craftsmen's efforts until completion,
and it has been highly regarded as a high-grade textile, designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property by the government in 1955.
