400 years ago, the beginning of Miyako Jōfu is said to have started when a wife wove a jōfu cloth for her husband, who was promoted for his achievements recognized by the Ryukyu Kingdom, and presented it to the king as a token of gratitude.
It is said that the origin of Miyako Jōfu was when it was presented to the king as a token of gratitude.
It is full of high-class dignity and was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan in Showa 53 (1978).

Miyako Jōfu begins with thread-making,
Carefully cultivated ramie fibers are split thinly using fingers or nails,

Finished with a process called "washing," which includes sizing and pounding (kinuta-uchi),
