"When you say unlined kimono, you mean Echizen," as it is known,
this kimono captivates kimono enthusiasts for the few months of early summer and early autumn.
Nowadays, it is loved throughout the seasons, all year round,
and is a tsumugi silk that is perfect for both unlined and lined kimonos.
"Hon-Echizen" is different from the general "Echizen-tsumugi",
as it uses raw silk threads for both warp and weft.
The warp threads are twisted 350 times per meter,
and the weft threads are twisted an additional 1800 times.
Because these strongly twisted threads are used, a crepe-like texture is created on the surface.
The "crisp" and "refreshing" feel of the texture
is unique to Hon-Echizen.
