a silk textile produced in and around Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Geometric patterns based on the dokko and kazara, which are Buddhist ritual objects, are woven into it.
It was presented to the shogunate by Kuroda Nagamasa, the lord of the Chikuzen domain during the Edo period,
It is also called Hakata Kenjo and Kenjo Hakata.
It is woven using a warp-faced twill weave, where the horizontal ribs stand out.
Because it uses 30 to 60 fine warp threads, it has stiffness and firmness,
a firm texture, and a glossy feel.
It is said to be a帯 (obi) that fastens securely, is difficult to come undone, and is easy to tie.
