a silk textile produced in and around Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Geometric patterns based on the dokko and kasara, which are Buddhist ritual objects, are woven into it.
Because it was presented to the shogunate by Kuroda Nagamasa, the lord of Chikuzen Domain during the Edo period,
It is called Hakata Kenjo or Kenjo Hakata.
It is woven using a warp-faced twill weave, where the horizontal ribs are prominent.
Because it uses 30-60 fine warp threads, it has stiffness and resilience,
a firm texture, and a lustrous appearance.
It is said to be an obi that ties securely, is resistant to coming undone, and is easy to tie.
