Tomiya Textile was founded around the beginning of the Meiji era by Ihei Tomioka as
a textile merchant in Nishijin.
Later, he began making obi fabric with his own hands and transitioned to a weaver.
Although operations were temporarily suspended (kyubata) during the Pacific War,
immediately after the war, under the trade name "Tomie Kigyoten,"
the business was reopened, and
in January 1956, "Tomiya Textile Co., Ltd." was established.
The Nishijin-ori Textile Association's certificate number is "308."
This was a number given by my grandfather, who loved puns, as "10 and 3 mi 8 ya."

With a high level of skill that received the Kyoto City Oscar Award,
the President of the United States and Russia, the Crown Prince of Monaco,
and members of the Diet,
textiles dedicated to temples and shrines, movie costumes,
and finish lines for ekiden and marathon races,
they have gained recognition in a wide range of fields.

While the main focus of manufacturing is obi fabric for kimonos,
they also engage in technical exchange and tree planting support activities with the royal family of Yogyakarta, Indonesia,
and wall decorations for temples in Los Angeles and San Francisco,
undertaking work overseas as well.

While preserving the continuous traditional techniques, they are also working on the development of new textiles,
and continue to take on challenges without end.
