The genuine Chikuzen Hakata Ori is a textile produced in Fukuoka City, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka Prefecture and its surrounding areas.
It features geometric patterns based on Buddhist ritual objects such as the dokko and flower dishes.
Since it was presented to the shogunate by Chikuzen domain lord Nagamasa Kuroda during the Edo period, it is also called Hakata Presentation or Presentation Hakata.
It is woven with a technique called okime-ori, which makes the horizontal ridges stand out.
Using 30 to 60 fine warp threads, it has firmness and resilience, and the fabric has a stiff feel and a glossy appearance.
It is said to be a well-tied, hard-to-fall-apart, easy-to-tie obi.
