Honba Chikuzen Hakata-ori is a
woven silk fabric produced in and around Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Geometric patterns based on the Dokko and Kazara, which are Buddhist ritual objects, are woven into it.
Since Nagamasa Kuroda, the lord of the Chikuzen domain during the Edo period, presented it to the shogunate,
it is also called Hakata Kenjo or Kenjo Hakata.
It is woven using a warp-faced twill weave, where the horizontal ribs stand out prominently.
Because it uses 30 to 60 fine warp threads, it has stiffness and firmness,
and has a firm texture and a glossy feel.
It is said to be an obi that tightens properly, is resistant to coming undone, and is easy to tie.
