Honma Chikuzen Hakata-ori is a silk fabric produced in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and its surroundings.
It features a geometric pattern based on the trident and flower dish, which are Buddhist ritual implements.
Since Chikuzen domain lord Nagamasa Kuroda made it a tribute to the shogunate during the Edo period,
it is also called Hakata Kenjo or Kenjo Hakata.
The warp threads wrap around the weft threads, with only the warp threads visible on the surface,
creating a weaving pattern called 'okune-ori' where horizontal ridges stand out.
Using 30 to 60 thin warp threads, it has firmness and stiffness, a firm texture, and a glossy appearance.
It is said to be a tightly woven, durable, and easy-to-tie obi that does not easily loosen or come apart.
