因幡の国（現在の鳥取県東部）は山林に恵まれ、とくに智頭、若桜、用瀬は現在でも林業が盛んな地域です。
因幡地方では古より木は生活に深く溶け込んでいました。山に分け入り、木を伐採し、家や道具をつくり、薪を燃料として利用する。それらに使用する道具のひとつが共柄鉈です。様々な使用に耐えるよう刃は汎用性のありメンテナンスが容易な両刃が好まれ、刃を守るための石突き（先端の突起）が付いています。柄は故障の少ない共柄が採用されており、すっぽ抜けを防止するために柄尻が環状に加工されています。因幡地方の険しい山に持ち込むのに邪魔になりにくいよう刃身のカーブがしっかりとついているのも特徴的です。共柄鉈（因幡型）両刃は、1本でマルチに長く使うことが考えられた道具となっております。焼入れ時につく黒皮をあえて残し、酸化被膜（黒錆）で赤錆による腐食から鉄を守る働きがあり、刃の磨き部分とのコントラストも趣を楽しむことができます。

薪割りでバトニングするときは割った薪やゴムハンマーをご使用ください。＊金属製や硬いもので鉈の背中を叩くと潰れ、潰れた部分が薪に刃物が入り込む時にストッパーになり割れにくくなります。
【お手入れ・メンテナンスについて】
使用後は刃や柄についた水分や汚れを布でよく拭き取ります。
しつこい汚れは、中性洗剤をつけた布で拭き取り、乾いた布でよく拭き取りください。メンテナンスとしては刃物用の油を刃の全体に塗って保管してください。
