Lancia, which won the Manufacturers' Championship for 5 consecutive years from 1987 to 1991, when the World Rally Championship (WRC) was contested with Group A machines, debuted the Delta HF Integrale, a significantly improved model of the Delta Integrale 16V.
In the 1992 WRC, Lancia, aiming for the championship again, achieved its fifth consecutive opening round victory with the Delta at the Monte Carlo Rally, its debut race.
In the fifth round, the Tour de Corse Rally, the Martini-sponsored Didier Auriol/Bernard Occelli team, driving car number 3, maintained a high pace and led from start to finish, demonstrating astonishing strength by marking the best time in 18 out of 23 Special Stages (SS), achieving their fourth Tour de Corse victory in five years.
After that, Lancia continued to dominate its rivals, achieving a 1-2 finish at the 1000 Lakes Rally, clinching the 1992 Manufacturers' Championship, and boasting a record six consecutive titles.
