This is a hanging scroll of the "Thirteen Buddhas" to be displayed near the Buddhist altar for Obon, Higan, and memorial services.
It depicts the Buddhas who preside over the thirteen main posthumous memorial services, from the first seven days after death to the thirty-third anniversary.

Displaying it near the Buddhist altar or the Obon shelf creates a solemn atmosphere and enhances the Obon feel.
While it can be displayed for all Buddhist events, it can also be hung for daily use, wishing for the safety of your family and the prosperity of your household.

This piece is based on an original drawing by Shuichi Horibe and is rendered with delicate hand-painting techniques. The roller ends are equipped with metal fittings, which is a characteristic of its authentic specifications. Furthermore, a paulownia wood box for storing the hanging scroll is included, making it convenient for preservation.

[Meaning of the Thirteen Buddhas]
(1) Shakyamuni Buddha: Teaches the principle of impermanence and removes anxiety.
(2) Manjushri Bodhisattva: Grants the wisdom to make Shakyamuni's teachings effective.
(3) Acalanatha: Cuts off lingering attachments with the sword in his right hand and guides with the silk rope in his left.
(4) Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva: As an attendant of Amida, he leads the deceased.
(5) Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva: As an attendant of Amida, he scoops up the deceased onto a lotus pedestal.
(6) Samantabhadra Bodhisattva: Teaches the practice that makes Manjushri's wisdom effective.
(7) Bhaisajyaguru Buddha: Grants a new body at the end of the mourning period.
(8) Maitreya Bodhisattva: As the second Shakyamuni, he preaches the Dharma.
(9) Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva: Saves the deceased at the time of Yama's judgment.
(10) Akasagarbha Bodhisattva: Grants peace and helps one become "Samantabhadra (a complete personality)."
(11) Amida Buddha: As the lord of the Pure Land, he converts the deceased and guides them to the right teachings.
(12) Vairocana Buddha: As the fundamental lord of the universe, he watches over all sentient beings.
(13) Akshobhya Buddha: Grants firm resolve towards a new life.

[Handling Precautions]
- Please use the included paulownia wood box for storage.
- When storing, gently brush off dust with a soft feather brush and be careful not to roll it too tightly.
- To prevent mold and insect damage, take it out of the box twice a year, in spring and autumn on clear days, and air dry it in the shade.
- Prolonged hanging may impair the scroll's original flexibility, so please avoid it as much as possible. Also, please avoid direct airflow from air conditioners, humid indoor environments, and direct sunlight.
