About the Artist
Karl-Andreas KOLLY (Piano)
Karl-Andreas KOLLY
Born into a musical family in Switzerland, his father was a church organist. He studied under Hans Schicker at the Zurich Academy of Music, then with Karl Engel in Bern, and later with Mieczysław Horszowski in Lucerne. In 1990, he won first prize in the competition for young musicians sponsored by the Swiss Bank Corporation, and also won numerous other competitions such as the Jecklin Competition. He performs actively in both solo and ensemble settings, giving concerts and master classes worldwide, not only in Europe but also in Japan, Australia, the United States, and China. He is also invited to many international music festivals such as Lucerne, Zurich, Davos, and Passau. He has frequently performed with orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra and the Bern Symphony Orchestra.
His solo albums, primarily featuring Bach and Chopin, have been released by Meister Music. In Europe, over 90 CDs have been released on labels such as Pan Classics, Koch Schwann, Novalis, and Tudor, including concertos and sonatas by Scriabin, and chamber music by Brahms and Schumann.
He has been a professor at the Zurich University of the Arts since 1991.
