The 2026 album from Ben Cook's solo project, GUV! This is the new album "WarmerThanGold" from the project by Ben Cook, whose artist name has changed with each release from Young Governor to YOUNGGUV to GUV. This work serves as a turning point, summarizing his career to date while stepping into new areas of expression. Cook's musical background, cultivated while moving between Toronto and England and spanning hardcore, punk, and power pop, has now culminated on a more expansive scale in this release.
Produced during his travels, this album boldly incorporates big beat and breakbeat elements, developing a rhythmic and uplifting sound that evokes influences from Madchester and Britpop. While possessing a sense of urgency and momentum, like speeding down a highway at midnight, GUV's signature strong hook sensibility remains intact.
Absorbing a wide range of influences from Beastie Boys to The Field Mice and Primal Scream, the lyrics powerfully support themes such as cultural globalization, the passage of time, and the role of the artist in contemporary society. "WarmerThanGold" is a work that clearly marks the "current location" of Ben Cook/GUV, who continues to evolve without stopping.
