| ■ GUND / GAND ■ |
GUND (GAND) was founded in 1898 in Connecticut, USA, by Adolf GUND. With its excellent design skills, it has won numerous awards and has led the teddy bear industry as a pioneer.
In 1925, upon Adolf GUND's retirement, the company was succeeded by Jacob Swedlin, who was working as a factory manager at the time. The company then continued to develop, especially improving production processes through technological advancements.
In 1960, they established a distribution center and became the first teddy bear company in the United States. GUND is known for its quality and was the first to establish toy safety standards. Today, it is not only in America but also expanded to Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, and South America.
In the United States, many people associate "stuffed animals = GUND," and it is said that every household has at least one GUND stuffed animal. The soft, skin-friendly plush toys are so comfortable that you want to hug them. Their quality is highly regarded worldwide.
In 1948, they acquired exclusive licensing rights for Disney character production. During the 1940s and 1950s, they also produced characters from King Features and Harvey Comics, actively manufacturing licensed character products.
They also focus on manufacturing their own brand of adorable and warm plush toys, among which the bear Snuffles and the dog Muttsy are famous and loved as standard products.
From 1963 to 1993, they created a series of Winnie the Pooh exclusively for Sears department stores. In 1994, they obtained the license for Classic Pooh. They also handle characters such as Mickey, Baby Mickey, Dumbo, Curious George, Beanie World, Bae, Dilbert, and Babar. |
