Players take on the role of ascetic monks attempting the most grueling training known as Sokushinbutsu (self-mummification), aiming to earn Bodhisattva points and become a better mummy. By going through the "Five Grains Gathering Phase," "Five Grains Abstinence Phase," and "Underground Phase," which trace the actual training content, the monks draw closer to becoming mummies. The actions performed during a turn are mostly the same throughout the game, but because the objectives differ for each phase, it is a new-sensation card game where the feel of play changes significantly midway through. The way players are forced to make painful choices the further they progress into the latter half is exactly like the ultimate ascetic practice of Sokushinbutsu itself. This work features a completely redesigned package from the 1st edition and has adjusted some rules to make it easier to play. Please try playing this experience of impermanence.
