Greenpan is a Belgian brand that was the first in the world to develop non-stick cookware that does not use fluoropolymer resin.
Greenpan was developed by Belgian Jan Helskens and Wim De Veirman.
Research began long before advanced countries like the U.S. publicly announced that overheating traditional fluoropolymer coatings releases toxic substances, and even before the industry was aware of this.
They started searching for a new coating that would be safe for the human body and the environment, working together with researchers to develop it.
They discovered that ceramic coatings, used as smoke-proof materials, are resistant to high heat and do not emit harmful substances. Repeated experiments were conducted to see if this could be processed into kitchenware.
It took additional time to verify and guarantee the safety and quality for the human body and environment, to establish appropriate processing facilities, and to implement the product.
In 2007, they developed "Thermolon®," a ceramic non-stick coating made from the same raw materials as sand, which contains no harmful PFAS.
This was a revolutionary breakthrough that fundamentally challenged the industry’s long-standing focus on fluoropolymer resins since 1958.
This marked the birth of Greenpan.
