Greenpan is a Belgian brand that developed the world's first non-stick cookware without using fluororesin.
Greenpan was developed by Belgian Jan Helskens and Wim De Veirman.
Research began long before advanced countries like the U.S. publicly announced that overheating traditional fluororesin coatings releases toxic substances, and even before the industry was aware.
They started searching for a new coating that is safe for the human body and the environment as a replacement for fluororesin, conducting joint research with scientists.
They discovered that ceramic coatings used as smoke-proof materials are resistant to high heat and do not emit harmful substances. Repeated experiments were conducted to see if this could be processed into kitchenware.
It took additional time to verify and guarantee the quality and safety for the human body and environment, to establish appropriate processing facilities, and to implement actual production.
In 2007, they developed "Thermolon," a ceramic non-stick coating made from the same raw materials as sand, which contains no harmful PFAS.
This was a revolutionary announcement that fundamentally overturned the industry’s long-standing bias toward fluororesin since 1958.
This marked the birth of Greenpan.
