The highly anticipated 3rd album, their first release after changing labels, is here! Green-House, the eco-ambient duo whose first visit to Japan in 2023 is still fresh in our memories, presents their long-awaited third album, their first release on the prestigious Ghostly International label. This album ventures into uncharted sonic landscapes (hinterlands), fluidly crossing the boundaries between urban and wild, organic and digital, as if embracing and confirming our connection with nature. A new era masterpiece that vividly resonates with overflowing "joy" and "wonder."

Olive Ardizoni and Michael Flanagan, who perform as Green-House, explore the connection between humanity and the natural world through dynamic synthesis that evokes joy.

Their collaborative creation is profound. It is a process of dialogue where frequencies and expressions overlap in layers, much like camouflage. The starting point of the project can originate from either artist. Sometimes Ardizoni writes a melody and Flanagan builds harmonics around it, or vice versa. The true power of Green-House emerges when their ideas intertwine like a double helix, sublimating into a deep resonance that transcends individual elements.

On their full album "Hinterlands," their first release on the prestigious Ghostly International, they have further refined their vibrant instrumental songcraft, achieving a more free-spirited dynamism unbound by genre. This work features a more active, percussive approach and is imbued with emotional energy, more so than their previous releases. The flowing sequence of sounds projects vast landscapes before the listener's eyes. "Hinterlands" confronts the beauty of this world with a kind of "radical and sincere honesty."

Since 2020, the duo has released numerous works from the Los Angeles label Leaving Records and has maintained a constant curiosity about the environment. Utilizing acoustic instruments, synthesizers, high-definition sound design, and Ardizoni's unique melodies, they paint any space with sound, from familiar places to distant, exotic lands (hinterlands).

The journey begins vividly from the opening of the album. The opening track, "Walking Through The Maples," features complex, vibrant layers that evoke the sensation of walking through a forest just awakening. The following track, "Mist On The Moat," depicts an introspective landscape shrouded in mist, offering a serene sense of immersion.

"The Cloud Table" is a track that symbolizes the album's direction. Percussive elements are emphasized more than ever, with a delicate balance between light rhythms and floating synthesizers. "The Wind Through The Chimes" unfolds with delicate textures that seem to translate the movement of wind into sound, inviting the listener into a brief moment of meditation.

And then, the title track, "Hinterlands." Here, the vastness of the "uncharted territory," the album's overarching theme, and the subtle pulse of life within it are expressed with dramatic compositional power. In the subsequent tracks, "The Silent Summer" and "The Bird Of Paradise," Green-House's signature colorful and evocative soundscapes continue to pour forth.

Green-House's music does not easily fit into existing categories. It clearly distinguishes itself from New Age philosophies and spirituality, and its sonic construction and density cannot be fully described by the word "ambient" alone. While boldly venturing into the realms of IDM and contemporary classical music, what remains the underlying current is an open curiosity and sense of wonder towards the world.

"I want to express emotions like 'happiness' and 'joy,' which are often overlooked in art, as something unwavering and legitimate within music," says Ardizoni. Even without lyrics, her multifaceted personality shines brilliantly from every particle of sound.

This "Hinterlands" is more than just an album. It is a new map for experiencing the world we inhabit more vividly and deeply.
