Ghost Chimney (Old Nishi-Arai Bridge)
The Senju Thermal Power Plant, built in 1926 (Taisho 15), was known for its four massive chimneys. Depending on the viewing angle, the four chimneys appeared as one, earning it the nickname "Ghost Chimney." However, in 1964 (Showa 39), it was dismantled due to aging and efficiency improvements. The plant became nationally famous through the film "The Place Where You Can See the Chimney" (starring Ken Uehara and Kinuyo Tanaka), directed by Goshō Ishi, and it was also featured in literary works and manga. The old Nishi-Arai Bridge was dismantled around 1960 (Showa 35), but it was located slightly west of the current bridge.
