太平洋上で巨大漂流環礁が発見されたころ、旧州の姫神島で謎の人間消失事件が発生。
「鳥! …鳥! ……」という無線を最後に消息が途絶えたことから調査に訪れた鳥類学者・長峰真弓は、そこで巨大怪鳥を目撃する。
一方、海上保安庁の米森と保険会社の草薙は環礁上にあった石板の碑文を解読。
その結果、環礁がガメラ、怪鳥がギャオスという古代怪獣であることが判明し……。【映像特典】
