"From Up on Poppy Hill"
Music by Satoshi Takebe, who handled the music for "From Up on Poppy Hill" (Planning: Hayao Miyazaki / Director: Goro Miyazaki), presents a piano sketch collection.
[Story]
The story is set in Yokohama, 47 years ago, the year before the Olympics in 1963.
The protagonists are high school students, slightly older than the baby boomer generation, which was just starting to be called "modern kids."
There were no expressways yet, but traffic jams were rampant, roads and trains were overcrowded, and the sea and rivers were polluted.
1963 was also the year the kingfisher disappeared from Tokyo and common nicknames within classrooms vanished.
There was poverty, but there was hope.
Umi, the eldest daughter in a matriarchal family, is a second-year high school student. Her father died at sea, and she helps her working mother by taking care of a large household of six, including boarders.
On the other hand, the boys are the president of the newspaper club and the chairman of the student council.
This is a coming-of-age story unfolding around them.
