1967年生まれ。立教大学文学部卒・山岳部OB。1992年、朝日新聞入社。富山支局員、東京本社写真部次長、編集委員などを経て、2012年に退職した後、世界自然遺産の屋久島に移住。新聞社時代には、2003年末から1年4カ月間、45次南極観測隊に同行して、昭和基地で越冬取材。帰国後、地球温暖化をテーマに環境取材を始め、グリーンランド、ネパールヒマラヤ、北極圏カナダなどを取材。現在、朝日新聞と鹿児島放送の屋久島駐在。『地球最北に生きる日本人』(フレーベル館)では、第53回児童福祉文化賞、第57回産経児童出版文化賞を受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)
