**What is Giganotosaurus?**
* **Classification:** Saurischia / Theropoda / Carcharodontosauridae
* **Size:** 12-14 meters in length
* **Era:** Late Cretaceous
* **Description:** A large carnivorous dinosaur that lived in South America during the Late Cretaceous period. It is a relatively newly discovered dinosaur, with its fossil first found in 1993. Its skull alone measured 1.8 meters. While larger than Tyrannosaurus rex in overall size, its skull was more elongated and slender, and it is believed that its jaw strength was not sufficient to crush bones. Fossil remains of multiple individuals have been found together, leading to the speculation that they hunted in packs and may have targeted large sauropods like Argentinosaurus. Carcharodontosaurus, which lived in northern Africa, is a close relative, and this is considered evidence that the two continents were once connected.
