In recent months, New Zealand artist/producer Fazerdaze (Amelia Murray) has navigated the intensity of change. As a result, her transformative new album, "Soft Power," will be released on November 15th by section1 / Buttrfly Records (Australia/New Zealand).
Fazerdaze's highly anticipated comeback EP "Break!", released in 2022, sent shockwaves through her career and marked a powerful leap towards personal freedom. For her, who had overcome personal struggles and industry hurdles since her acclaimed 2017 debut "Morningside," "Break!" was a moment of liberation. Following "Break!", which was praised by The Guardian, The FADER, NME, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Pitchfork, MOJO, and others, the single "Bigger" was released (this song is also included in the new album). While 2017's "Morningside" was a deeply intimate bedroom pop record, Fazerdaze's recent work pursues a more expansive sound, drawing inspiration from artists like Tame Impala, The Cure, and U2's "The Joshua Tree." The liberating experience of recording and releasing "Break!" energized Fazerdaze, and returning to her roots, she began working solo again.
The new album "Soft Power" is an 11-track epic. Characterized by intense self-pity and mature self-awareness, the album is painted with a broader palette. Described by her as a "bedroom stadium record," it blends synths and electronic beats with classic rock influences, creating a sound that balances moments of solid confidence with polished pop brilliance. Most of "Soft Power" was recorded and produced by Fazerdaze herself, with Simon Gooding co-mixing and Emily Wheatcroft-Snape engineering the album's drum parts.
