◆ About the Pulmat Gayo Cooperative
The farm is located in a mountainous area south of Banda Aceh city, in northern Sumatra, Indonesia, about a 7-hour drive from the capital, Jakarta. Perhaps due to its remote location, this region has historically not used pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Therefore, the Pulmat Gayo Cooperative has leveraged the benefits of traditional organic cultivation, obtaining organic certification in 2007 and Fair Trade certification the following year. Since then, they have continued efforts such as environmental education and training to produce high-quality specialty coffee. All of these efforts aim to increase the income of the farmers who are members of the cooperative.
