◆ About the Producer Cooperative: Permata Gayo Cooperative
The farm is located in a mountainous area about a 7-hour drive south of the city of Banda Aceh in northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Perhaps due to its distance from the capital, Jakarta, pesticides and chemical fertilizers have not been used in this region for a long time. Therefore, the Permata Gayo Cooperative, leveraging the benefits of traditional organic cultivation, obtained organic certification in 2007 and Fair Trade certification the following year. They continue to make efforts, such as environmental education and training, to ensure they can ship high-quality specialty coffee. All of this is driven by the desire to increase the income of their farmer members as much as possible.
