◆About the Producer Cooperative: Permata Gayo Cooperative

The farm is located in a mountainous area about a 7-hour drive south of the city of Banda Aceh in northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Perhaps due to its distance from the capital, Jakarta, pesticides and chemical fertilizers have fortunately not been used in this region for a long time. Therefore, the Permata Gayo Cooperative, leveraging the benefits of traditional organic cultivation, obtained organic certification in 2007 and Fair Trade certification the following year. They continue to strive to ship high-quality specialty coffee by providing environmental education and training. All of this is driven by the desire to increase the income of their member farmers.

All coffee beans are certified organic by overseas standards or have been confirmed to be grown without pesticides during cultivation by organizations directly connected with producers. Supporting organic cultivation helps maintain the rich soil ecosystem of tropical regions.

3. Shade-Grown

Shade-grown refers to cultivation under the canopy of rainforest trees. This traditional coffee cultivation method, which coexists with the forest, plays a significant role in preventing deforestation. This cultivation method preserves the natural environment and ecosystem of coffee-producing regions for the future.
