◆ About the Pulmat Gayo Cooperative
The farm is located in a mountainous area south of Banda Aceh city, in northern Sumatra, Indonesia, approximately a 7-hour drive from the capital, Jakarta. Perhaps because it is far from Jakarta, this region has historically not used pesticides or chemical fertilizers, fortunate for organic cultivation.
In 2007, the Pulmat Gayo Cooperative received organic certification, followed by Fair Trade certification in 2008. Since then, they have continued efforts such as environmental education and training to produce high-quality specialty coffee. All these efforts aim to increase the income of the farmers who are members of the cooperative.

3. Shade-Grown
Shade-grown refers to cultivation under the canopy of tropical rainforest trees. Traditional shade-grown coffee farming, which coexists with forests, plays a significant role in preventing deforestation. This method helps preserve the natural environment and ecosystems of coffee-producing areas for the future.
