ギリシア神話の時代から連綿と伝えられる「エレジー=哀歌」。しかし当時の嘆きの歌はエキゾチックなものとして捉えられていたようです。このアルバムではロマン派の様々な「エレジー」を集め、チェロの美しい音色で、悲しみや情感を描き出しています。チェロを演奏するのは、録音当時23歳の若きオランダのチェリスト、ハリエット・クリーフ。彼女はすでにCAPRICCIOレーベルに3枚の録音を持ち、そのどれもが絶賛されています。特に「ジャクリーヌの涙」は彼女の得意とする曲で、以前ピアノ伴奏でも演奏していましたが、今回のオーケストラ伴奏では、さらに伸び伸びとした演奏を披露しています。心に響く音楽です。彼女のインタビュー映像も付属しています。
