This is an egg-shaped teapot for green tea from Takasuke Pottery Studio.
It features a vertically elongated egg shape and a soft, ivory color. The green of the tea and the ivory of the teapot complement each other well.
The angle and size of the handle are just right, making it easy to pour and comfortable to use. The lid is finished using Tokoname's unique "suriawase" (fitting) technique to ensure a gap-free fit with the body. The tea strainer inside the teapot is also carefully crafted from the same clay.
You can brew 1-2 servings of tea with a small amount of hot water, or 3-4 servings with a larger amount.

*Tokoname Ware
Tokoname Ware is pottery produced in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. It was Japan's largest pottery production center in the medieval period, producing not only daily necessities such as plates, bowls, and pots, but also large ceramic vessels like jars and urns.
From the late Edo period (around 1858 AD), red clay teapots and sake cups have also been produced. Since the mid-Showa period (1962 AD), the technology for electric kilns suitable for red clay has been established. Tokoname red clay teapots are fired at approximately 1100°C. Tokoname clay, with its fine particles suitable for teapots, is more compatible with electric kilns, which fire at slightly lower temperatures than traditional wood-fired kilns reaching 1200-1300°C.
In the Tokoname region, which was the bottom of a lake called Tokai Lake millions of years ago, there are fine-grained clays like red clay and black clay, which are ideal for teapots. Tokoname has accumulated the necessary techniques for teapot making, such as advanced forming techniques and the "suriawase" technique, which perfectly fits the lid and body of a teapot without gaps. It is Japan's largest producer of teapots.
