The striped patterns that entered Japan through Nanban trade became popular among common people during the Edo period. Edo residents created various stripe patterns and enjoyed "iki" (stylishness). Very thin stripe patterns are called "Sensenji" (thousand stripes).
The fabric combines a natural white base with brush-like dark brown and thin gold stripes, and a delicate, seemingly solid, shibori (tie-dye) pattern called "Shike" that appears as a subtle, plain dye. This combination offers a simple, modern design that suits both Japanese and Western spaces.
The plain shibori-dyed sections are available in "Kuro Nezu" (black ink) and "Kuriume" (chestnut plum). The fabric features a coarse weave with a comfortable, textured feel, made from a unique weaving technique.
