Hasegawa 1/72 Japan Air Self-Defense Force Interceptor Fighter F-15J Eagle Plastic Model E12
The F-15J Eagle is the main interceptor fighter of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). The JASDF is the third country in the world to be equipped with the Eagle, following the US Air Force and Israel. The JASDF, which had been using the F-104J as an interceptor fighter until then, investigated the F-X as a successor to the F-104J. After many candidate aircraft, it was decided on December 9, 1976, to adopt the F-15, and the first aircraft arrived at Gifu Air Base on March 27, 1981. The F-15J of the JASDF at the time of its introduction was basically equivalent to the US Air Force's F-15C Block 26, with some unique modifications by the JASDF. The main modifications were the addition of a high-speed data device (J/ASW-10 datalink system) for receiving intercept control from the Self-Defense Forces' own BADGE (Base Air Defense Ground Environment) system and E-2C early warning aircraft, and the change of the antenna at the tip of the vertical stabilizer to a mass balance. The JASDF initially deployed the F-15J to Nyutabaru Air Base for pilot training, and then began full-scale deployment to combat air wings. Currently, the F-15J is deployed in seven squadrons: 201st Squadron (Chitose Air Base), 202nd Squadron (Nyutabaru Air Base), 203rd Squadron (Chitose Air Base), 204th Squadron (Hyakuri Air Base), 303rd Squadron (Komatsu Air Base), 304th Squadron (Tsuiki Air Base), and 305th Squadron (Hyakuri Air Base). Like the US Air Force, the F-15J is undergoing a multi-stage improvement program (MSIP), with equipment being improved and added year by year. As a result, external changes have occurred, such as the addition of new antennas. In addition, aircraft capable of carrying the domestically produced AAM-3 air-to-air missile are also being modified. The F-15J, along with the FS-X to be developed in the future, will play a vital role in defending Japan's skies as the JASDF's main fighter.
