Rusalka, a water nymph, falls in love with a human prince. She is transformed into a human by the sorceress Ježibaba, but in return, she must give up her voice. Furthermore, she agrees to a condition: if she cannot win the prince's love, both will be eternally cursed. The two fall in love, but on their wedding day, the prince, astonishingly, becomes enamored with a foreign princess...
Robin Ticciati, Music Director of the Glyndebourne Festival, performs Dvořák's beautiful, rich melodies and rhythmic music with lyrical and dynamic flair, supported by a superb cast of singers and dancers. Sally Matthews' poignant performance as Rusalka is particularly memorable. The staging by British director Maryinsky, who handles set design, direction, and choreography, adds an exciting, otherworldly color to the tragic love story of the water nymph.
