A secret piece by Dvořák. A nostalgic melody etched in the heart. The ultimate healing.
■ The highly anticipated solo album by Leif Ove Andsnes is Dvořák's "Poetic Music Collection." These piano pieces were composed in 1889, when the composer was 48 years old, and are mature works created before his trip to the United States, similar to his Symphony No. 8 and the opera "Jacobin." In April 1889, a visit to his hometown Neralhozeves after a long time inspired this intimate music reflecting nostalgic memories, consisting of 13 jewel-like small pieces with titles.
■ Andsnes himself describes it as "a forgotten masterpiece of 19th-century piano music," having been captivated by the works since childhood and performed them at a piano competition at age 12. During the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited performance activities, Andsnes revisited these works. His nuanced interpretation and refined pianism create a Dvořák world like a kaleidoscope. Nostalgic melodies are etched into the heart.
