<About Mucha Chachan>
- Building a relationship between agriculture and people starting from mandarin oranges
In 1974, when the nationwide production of Wenshu mandarins peaked and began to become excessive, successors of mandarin farmers who were concerned about the future of regional agriculture and skeptical of citrus cultivation using many pesticides and chemical substances borrowed 1,500 square meters of Iyo mandarin orchards to create an experimental farm during the cultivation period without pesticides.
The start of Mucha Chachan was "producing mandarins without relying on pesticides or chemical fertilizers." This remains the fundamental principle today.
Currently, the cultivation area with farmers working together in Akahama Town exceeds 100 hectares. They are expanding organic farming and working on regional development that leverages mountains and the sea.
Furthermore, by scaling up organic farming, they aim to build a new agricultural system where young people can live rooted in the community.
- Making the most of the favorable terrain and maintaining as natural a environment as possible
In Akahama Town, Nishi-Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture, facing Uwa Sea to the south and blessed with a warm climate.
Passing through the Nokufu Tunnel at the entrance, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Uwa Sea, the village, and steep mandarin orchards.
The terraced fields made of limestone shine white under the sun, illuminating the surrounding trees.
The soil drains well and is rich in minerals carried by the sea breeze, creating ideal natural conditions for delicious mandarins.
Under such a naturally blessed environment and following a cultivation policy that is "easy on both people and nature," more than 80 farmers are currently growing mandarins for Mucha Chachan.
Mandarins bear fruit only once a year.
Even if pesticides are used when unavoidable, efforts are made to minimize their use throughout the year.
