朴の木(ほおのき）は、堅いので下駄の歯（朴歯下駄）などの細工物に使う。また、水に強く手触りが良いため、和包丁の柄やまな板に利用されたり、ヤニが少なく加工しやすい為、日本刀の鞘にも用いられています。
印籠は水戸黄門で有名です。
三段 中が空洞になっていますので薬など小物が入れられます。
