Magnolia wood (Hoonoki) is hard and is used for crafts such as geta (wooden clogs) teeth (Hoonoki geta). It is also resistant to water and has a pleasant texture, making it suitable for the handles of Japanese knives and cutting boards. Because it has little resin and is easy to work with, it is also used for the scabbards of Japanese swords.
