著者について
1939年福島県郡山市生まれ。福島県立安積高校、東京大学法学部卒業後、日本青年会議所での活動を経て、1983年に参議院議員選挙で初当選、87年、大蔵政務次官。88年、福島県知事選挙に出馬し、当選を果たす。東京一極集中に異議を唱え、原発問題、道州制などに関して政府の方針と真っ向から対立、「闘う知事」として名を馳せ、県内で圧倒的支持を得た。第五期一八年目の2006年9月、県発注のダム工事をめぐる汚職事件で追及を受け、知事辞職、その後逮捕される。第一審で有罪判決を受けるが、控訴。
