This work is the first volume, titled "Crystal Tales," featuring mainly songs written for suspense dramas. These dramas are not just about solving mysteries or good versus evil, but depict human passions and multifaceted natures. The music by Mina Kubota that colors these works has layered appeal, is full of tension, and above all, is beautiful.

It is also recent memory that NHK's morning serial drama "Gegege no Nyobo," for which Mina Kubota composed music, recorded a social phenomenon-level hit in 2010. The organic score used there and the cool, urban sound of this album may be considered contrasting in a certain sense. However, the noble and refined resonance common to both can be said to be uniquely hers. This is an exquisite instrumental album that transcends the frame of music for visuals and reaches into the listener’s heart.

"When working on music for serious visual works, I express the deep emotional undulations within a person. While struggling with subtle nuances, I find immense joy and interest in turning multifaceted emotions into sound. Perhaps this is what I most wanted to express. The sounds naturally come to mind, and as they accumulate through various works, I have always wanted to shape these kinds of songs properly.

The tracks included here are compiled from multiple dramas, but in terms of expressing complex human emotions, they are all on the same level, and when I create the next album, I want to include such songs again. Things that seem simple on the surface, when viewed from different angles, quietly but in conflict, intertwine—these songs all express more than just a single event or emotion. About the Artist

【Mina Kubota Profile】
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1972.
Started composing music at a music school from age 4, and learned piano from age 5.
At age 10, after attending Rostropovich’s master class, she was invited to perform her original compositions at a concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., USA, conducted by Rostropovich, sharing the stage with the U.S. National Symphony. Her composition and performance activities were recognized, and she received the Kitakyushu Civic Culture Award the following year. Since then, she has performed with orchestras both domestically and internationally, including NHK Symphony, New Japan Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and others, in countries such as the UK, France, East and West Germany, Mexico, Israel, and the USA (including the UN General Assembly Hall in New York).
After graduating from high school, she entered the Royal Academy of Music in the UK as a scholarship student, studying composition and commercial music. She studied under Nick Ingman and Chris Brown, graduating in 1994. She then continued postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating the following year. During her studies, she received the Lansdown Award (sponsored by CTS Studios) and was a finalist for the Eric Coats Prize. Subsequently, she participated in works across a wide range of fields from pop to classical with various artists in the UK. In 2001, she moved her base to Japan, working as a composer, arranger, producer, and pianist.
Recently, she gained attention for her work on the music for NHK’s serial TV novel "Gegege no Nyobo."
