The tie rod end is a part at the tip of the tie rod that transmits steering wheel movements to the car's tires, and it plays a very important role.
It is made internally with ball joints and is designed to operate smoothly in response to the vertical movement of the suspension and the left and right movement of the steering wheel.
By changing the length of the rod, you can also adjust the direction of the tires (toe angle) for wheel alignment.
Tie rod ends are made of strong metal, but the dust boots are made of rubber, so they may tear or crack due to high mileage or aging.
If the dust boot tears, the car will not pass the vehicle inspection.
It is best to replace them as a preventive measure before they break, when the mileage reaches 100,000 km or when 10 years have passed.
Symptoms before breakage include abnormal noises such as "koto koto" or "gata gata" when operating the steering wheel or passing over bumps, decreased straight-line stability, steering wheel play, increased steering wheel play, and uneven tire wear.
If a tie rod end failure is suspected, it must be replaced with a new one.
