・ラジエーターのロワタンク又は冷却水通路に取り付けされているのがサーモスタットです。
電動ファンのオン、オフを設定温度でコントロールし、エンジンの過熱を防ぎエンジンブローしないように適正温度に保つための重要な役割をしています。
メーカー問わずどんな車でも、ラジエター本体の前部には電動ファンが装備されています。
・電動ファンはラジエターに走行風が当たりづらい渋滞時の低速走行、暑い夏場の気温によりエンジンの熱で冷却水の温度が上昇することを防ぎ作動します。
サーモスタットが故障して作動しなくなると、冷却水の温度は高温になりオーバーヒートしてヘッドガスケット抜け等の故障の原因になります。
・水温計がオーバーヒート気味でも冷却水の減少が無く、サーモスタットにも異常が見当たらない場合、電動ファンが回っていない可能性があります。
またサーモスタットが開いたままになり冷却水の温度が上がらないオーバークールになったりもします。
こうなると水温が上がるのが遅く暖房（ヒーター）がいつまでも暖かくならない症状が出ます。
・耐久性のある部品ですので簡単に壊れる可能性はありませんが、定期的に点検して交換しておけばトラブルを起こさず安心です。
目安としては10年10万キロが交換時期です。
純正パーツはコストがかかりますので、純正部品同等のリーズナブルな社外品を使用し早めの交換をお勧めします。
