"Companion" is the fourth solo album by Quentin Sirjacq in collaboration with Schole. It features piano as the main instrument, with guest musicians including marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel, and synthesizer. This work follows the 2016 release "Far Islands and Near Places." In this new album, you can enjoy Sirjacq's challenge of incorporating new elements that change the song structures along with orchestration, while maintaining beautiful melodies and delicate harmonies of traditional piano. Each piece gives a sense of traveling from one place to another, unfolding pleasantly while being influenced by and interacting with various elements. Elements such as gamelan, African polyrhythm, neoclassical, free jazz, electronic music, and film music are skillfully layered within this work. This album, conceived with various musical ideas and techniques, is very unique yet combines simplicity and beauty.

In this work, Sirjacq has invited guest musicians including Vincent Taurell, who came to Japan as a band member during last year's Hikaru Utada tour, Julien Loutelier, Arnaud Lassus, and Steve Argüelles, all of whom are active in France.

About the artist

Since the release of his first album "La Chambre Claire" in 2010, Quentin Sirjacq has regularly toured Japan as a solo pianist and has produced two solo albums (Piano Memories, Far Islands & Near Places). He is also actively involved in composing for theater, dance, radio dramas, and especially film music. Sirjacq's music fuses emotional piano touches with elements rooted in French Impressionism and classical traditions, beautifully blending influences from contemporary music, American minimalism, jazz, and electronic music. Over the past few years, he has been traveling and collaborating with Chris Hooson (Dakota Suite). He has also performed with Meredith Monk, Fred Frith, Shazad Ismaily, William Winant, and others.
