She stylishly and soulfully sings a number of masterpieces born mainly after the 1970s, including Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind" and "Everything Must Change," also known for its renditions by Marlena Shaw and Nina Simone.

Founded in 1977 by Michael Gushick, supervised mainly by Vic Chirumbolo. Vic was a shrewd operator who moved through Warner Bros., Verve, Prestige, etc., before becoming Vice President of CTI, founded by Creed Taylor. Freddie Hubbard vs. Jon Faddis, George Benson vs. Grant Green, Eric Gale vs. Cornell Dupree, Ron Carter vs. Buster Williams, Johnny Hammond vs. Groove Holmes... they certainly assembled formidable opponents. By featuring Crawford around the time he left KUDU, and inviting Hubert Laws, who was heavily promoted by CTI and then exclusive to Columbia from '76, as a special guest, they must have been strongly conscious of, if not aiming to surpass, the competition, including their elaborate sound production with added strings and horn sections.
