Dhaulagiri, the last remaining peak, in May of this year.It fully conveys his feelings for the mountains and his companions, as well as the beauty of the majestic peak that stands proudly.
[Content]18 years after his first successful ascent of an 8,000-meter peak, this year he challenged Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), the 7th highest peak in the world and the last one remaining for him, achieving his long-cherished dream. The 14 peaks over 8,000 meters, including Mt. Everest (8,848m), the world's highest peak, are called the "Seats of the Gods."It was considered impossible for an individual to climb them all, but in 1986, the extraordinary Italian Reinhold Messner became the first in the world to achieve this feat.To date, 27 people from 15 countries have conquered all the peaks, but no Japanese person had accomplished it.Japanese mountaineers who had attempted it before all met with misfortune before reaching 10 peaks, their dreams shattered.Hirotaka Takeuchi says, "The world of 8,000 meters is a harsh place where humans should not exist." He challenged the beautiful yet severe nature under conditions of avalanche risk, temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius, and one-third the oxygen level of sea level. This program closely follows his final challenge on the 14 peaks. Through his journey, it depicts the life of a mountaineer captivated by the Himalayas and his continuous spirit of challenge.
