Ships in 1-5 business days: Introduction
A gospel book for those who thought, "I must read this."A popular tea classic where you can read "that story" of Rikyu.
Traditional tea classics have always been rigid books with three parts: original text, translation, and commentary. Even if you thought you should read them, they were expensive, or if you bought them, they ended up as "tsundoku" (books bought but not read). This series boldly simplifies the content to just modern Japanese translation and vocabulary explanations, and has been slimmed down and made eco-friendly by using a compact paperback size that fits in a bag. Volume 1 presents two books: anecdotes told by Rikyu's grandson, Sotan, and tea ceremony stories told by Sotan's son, Koshi. You will encounter many anecdotes you have heard before.
Contents (from "BOOK" database)
"Chawa Shigetsushū" is a woodblock edition published in Genroku 14 (1701) in the mid-Edo period, compiled by Kusumi Soan from tea stories about Rikyu heard from Rikyu's grandson, Sen Sotan, and written down by his senior disciple Fujimura Yoken. "Kōshin Natsukasho" is a written record by Sotan's third son, Koshi Soza, of tea stories also heard from Sotan, intended to be passed down to his heir. Both books vividly record the words and actions of Rikyu as actually seen and heard by Sotan.
