Approximately 8.2 million pixels, high-speed continuous shooting at 5 frames per second, and other specifications are top of the middle class (as of August 20, 2004). The autofocus points have been increased by two compared to the '10D', making focusing more comfortable. A digital single-lens reflex camera that captivates from high amateur to professional photographers.
Pixel count
Equipped with a newly developed CMOS sensor with approximately 8.2 million effective pixels (22.5×15.0 mm). The size of the microlenses has been made larger than the CMOS sensor used in the '10D', and the gaps between the microlenses have been reduced to about half, achieving a wide ISO sensitivity equivalent to ISO 100-1600 (expandable to 3200). It also reduces noise during high ISO shooting, making astrophotography possible. The lens focal length is extended by 1.6 times.
New image engine
The image engine "DIGIC II" improves color reproduction of high saturation, high luminance subjects. It has a wide dynamic range and can express high-contrast subjects with smooth gradations. It also shows resilience even in areas prone to blown highlights. It enables faster image data processing and lower power consumption.
Monochrome mode
Using the "Monochrome mode" added to the development parameters, you can enjoy shooting similar to using black-and-white film. It allows adjustment of contrast and sharpness in five levels each, filter effects (yellow/orange/red/green), and toning (sepia/blue/purple/green).
Camera operability
The startup time is about 0.2 seconds, which is fast. The autofocus points, which were arranged in a plus shape in the '10D', have been increased by two to nine points arranged in a diamond shape. To change the autofocus points to a diamond shape, a multi-controller that allows quick selection of autofocus points has been installed, making focusing more comfortable. Equipped with a newly developed high-speed shutter unit, achieving a maximum of 1/8000 seconds and flash sync at 1/250 seconds.
Continuous shooting
At 5 frames/sec, up to approximately 23 frames (JPEG large/fine mode).
LCD monitor
Equipped with an 11.8 million pixel, 1.8-inch TFT LCD monitor.
