A small, lightweight EF lens with a 50mm standard angle of view close to human vision and a bright F1.8 open aperture. Uses Canon's proprietary optical design technology and coatings suitable for digital camera shooting. Additionally, the aperture has been changed from 5 blades to a 7-blade circular aperture, enabling beautiful circular background blur effects.
When mounted on EOS series cameras equipped with APS-C size CMOS sensors, the focal length equivalent in 35mm format is approximately 80mm, making it ideal for portrait photography.

By adopting gear-type Stepping Motor (STM), achieves quieter AF drive compared to previous models.
